EDYS Philosophy & People

EDYS is more than just a place for teens to hang out. We bring with us a qualified team and wealth of experience.

Our programs are funded by Local, State and Federal governments, and occasionally with private donor or corporate support. We provide most services free of charge or at cost (if school holiday activities).

Youth and Family workers practice from a trauma informed principles and use attachment based parenting techniques to promote close relationships between young people and parents, to support emotional regulation and help rebuild lives following family conflict or violence.

Backed by SSFS

EDYS became a project of Sutherland Shire Family Services since early 2015, and has become the hub of their Youth & Family programs offering casework and information, support and activities that encourage informed decision making, positive choices and healthy relationships.

Sutherland Shire Family Services (SSFS) has been providing support services to families within our community for 30 years, particularly those who have been impacted by disadvantage, violence and trauma. In particular, we are key service in the local area and work with hundreds of women and children impacted by family and domestic violence. Through providing these services, we contribute to the promotion and maintenance of safety and wellbeing among all family members. We also offer family caseworker services, therapeutic & educational programs, childcare & supported playgroups, and Aboriginal Family support services.

EDYS and Sutherland Shire Family Services provide valuable community resources and support programs, both through in-school & outreach initiatives, school holiday activities, local youth events as well as parenting teens programs. Taking referrals from schools, other services and self-referrals, EDYS works individually with young people and/or their families across a broad range of issues such as adolescent/parent conflict, family violence, peer relationships, mental health, sexuality as well as living and social skills.

Programs for Parents

In addition to our programs targeted at young people, we also offer a range of programs for parents that are designed to build parenting skills and capacity.

Baby & Me is a support program designed specifically for young parents under 24 years of age.

Sutherland Shire Family Services also run a range of programs designed to build on parenting capacity and connection between parent and child.
