What We Do Support for Families Term 2 Schedule Group Support Programs reimagined for Online Delivery The amazing team of family support workers at SSFS have adapted all the planned programs for Term 2 into online delivery, to ensure we can continue to support families throughout our Term 2 program. Rather than the face to face groups we normally run, all programs have been refreshed for online delivery, with live Zoom meetings to take place during normal scheduled sessions. This coming term, we are offering the following Parenting Education programs and Support Groups. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all programs are being delivered remotely, using video conferencing technology. Participants must register to gain access to the Zoom links for each session. Bringing Up Great Kids This FREE parenting program uses mindfulness reflection to review and enhance patterns of communication with their children, to promote more respectful interactions and encourage the development of children’s positive self-identity. The program draws from child-centred and strengths-based perspectives, neurological development, attachment theory and narrative approaches. As part of the program, participants will receive a parenting journal, more than 20 interactive handouts as well as integrated reflective/mindful activities. Mums Matter A free 6 week educational support group for women designed to provide information about their own safety and self-care during this time of social distancing as a result Covid19. Through the lived and shared experiences of women and their children, the group allows women to build on their strengths to keep themselves and their children safe. Baby & Me The 5-week program is for young parents under 24 or expecting parents. The program has been designed to help young parents in their adjustments to parenthood, healthy attachments to their child, gaining further understanding of infant social and emotional development, along with the importance of communication and play. Sessions include guest speakers, nurturing and role modelling, and the opportunity for young parents to connect with each other for support, as well as link with professionals who can provide further referral or assistance if required. As well as our regular programs of Supported Playgroup, Koori Kids Playgroup, and Little Koori Thinkers Homework Group. Our Coffee and Connect program for Defence Families is also a regular feature to our new program.
